Hi, I’m CatasTrophy Wife! I always dreamed of being a trophy wife…unfortunately, that didn’t happen! So now, I guess I’m just a catastrophe? I don’t know, I’m still trying to figure all of this out.
When I started this blog, I was 31 and married. Now, I’m 39 (turning 40 this year!) and divorced (technically legally separated, but that’s a story for another time). I live in Oregon, with my ex-husband, and have a somewhat law-related career. Yes, I went to law school, barely graduated and managed to pass TWO state bars. Impressive, huh? Not really, when you realize I had to take the ethics exam more than three times (okay, five times; three times for one state, two times for the other). Needless to say, I have some professional ethics issues.
George and I were married for almost 11 years and I think it was a success! We’re still very good friends and now roommates. We had a beautiful wedding and honestly, I don’t regret any of it.
I took some time (about two years) away from blogging to try to sort out my life. Update: still sorting. But I did a few recap posts about that time and you can read those here: The Divorce, The Dating Game, Thailand, Europe-ish, Trailer Life, Extra.
I have a boyfriend and we’ve been dating for about a year and a half. He’s not into the social media/blogging thing so there won’t be pictures of him on here. I’ll still probably talk a lot of sh*t about him, though. Yay! Here we are in Amsterdam last year:

Oh, so cute! It’s going to be interesting to do this blogging thing and only include pictures of myself.
I still watch WAY too much reality tv, but I also listen to a ton of podcasts, hang out with my family, travel and read a lot. I have what’s been described as an “interesting family” complete with extra dads, little brothers (like 27 years younger), Japanese, Mexicans and blacks. We are trying to make our family as much like the United Nations as possible.
Please see Exhibit 1 (whoa these pics are old!):
And Exhibit 2:
Oh and I change my hair color. A lot. I guess that’s about it. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and if you don’t, f*** off. Thanks!!
This is hilarious! I was just reading it outloud to Rich. Now I won’t be able to tear myself away from your misadventures. Thanks alot!
Sandy
Glad you’re reading. Did you see that I have sponsors now? I thought you’d like that.
Found your blog thru SkinnyRunner! I love that you play the harp – I do too! Irish harp though, not classical. And I don’t perform often either 😦
Totally cool. A friend of mine is trying to get together to record stuff to post on youtube! Probably some different stuff, she’s major music-y, loves theory and doing her own arrangements. It will probably end up being a disaster, so I can’t wait to do a blog post about it. Thanks for writing!!!
Found your blog via Skinny Runner as well. You’re a riot! I thought I was the only one with a crazy big family. No Mexicans in mine but I do have a little Cambodian brother that gets spoken to in Spanish quite often. That counts, right? Would love to hear your family story!
No biggie, I just claimed http://www.wordpress.com as my blog address. WHO DO I THINK I AM?
You found me on a good day…there will be a regional meeting of the United Nations (aka my family) on Saturday, look for a blog post soon!!
Also found you through SR! Where did you go to law school? Willamette Univ. College of Law class of 2002 here 🙂
Nice…I work with a few grads form there. I went to law school in L.A. (Southwestern Univ. SoL), and before you ask, yes, it is accredited (barely).
YOU are funny!
So nice to know you represent with all your hand gestures! My students would pay to have me do that! Darn that working for the state thing plus my paranoia that big brother has nothing better to do then to watch me.
I will totally be your cyber stalker now!
OMG, I love your blog!!! Subscribing now!
I just came across your blog! Love it!
Katie : )
Hey It looks like I have a doppelganger in your family!
Love your blog! Just found it through SR! You are hiliarious 🙂
Love the pictures of you & your husband!! Beautiful!
I’m not even kidding when I tell you that I just spend the last 7 minutes wondering if I’ve ever heard the last name Catas, or whether it’s the name of a city that you possibly live in? haha I get it now…
I found your blog through SR. She actually used one of my pictures of when I used to (most certainly past tense) do a little fitness modeling…Long story short..my boyfriend of 2.5 years is also 18 years older than me! It definitely isn’t typical, but its totally my fairytale. Love your blog. xoxo
Carin from Tucson
You two are way too cute!!! p.s. I think brunette is more flattering on you 🙂
Love the United Nations family!! I found your blog through Skinny Runner and it’s hilarious! I may be a bit boring to you since I married a guy only 2 years older than me, but everyone thinks he’s Mexican if that spices it up a bit!!! 🙂 Can’t wait to read!!
You are so funny! I cannot believe your hubby is that much older than you. He sure doesn’t look it! Saw your comment on Carrots n Cake and had to hop over.
I LOVE this! The pictures are priceless, I should join your family too (just throw another Asian into the mix) 🙂
My friend sent me your guest post on skinnyrunner because she knew that I would enjoy reading it. I’m 26 and am married to an older black man as well. He is 21 years older than I am, so currently 47, and has 3 daughters, one who is older than I am, one who is 22 and one who is 12. Oh yeah, and he has 6 grandkids. Talk about weird, saying you are a grandma before you are a mom…haha. But I wouldnt trade any of it for the world. Anyways, im sure we have had many similar experiences that are worth sharing. Thanks for the great post!
I must say I’m thankful G is not a grandpa…yet. I know it will happen, but I’m hoping the boys keep that on lockdown for a while, like at least 10 years. It’s nice to know that someone is in a similar situation and I’m sure there are probably others out there like us, poor girls 🙂 Thanks so much for writing!!
Hi! Found your blog through SkinnyRunner (me thinks, who knows…I did a LOT of blog surfing that day….sounds like a “morning after booze excuse..but alas, it would be an “I was bored, there were probably no RHOBH/NY/OC/iwouldwatchanycitybutDCoverandoveragain reruns on and my 10 month old ankle biter was napping” excuse). lol I have LOVED reading your posts! I am also a recent law grad who squeaked out of law school by the skin of her teeth! Although I’m only licensed in ONE state, I did only have to take the ethics exam ONCE. lol But the score I needed to get was embarrassingly low. I’m pretty sure they are ethically lacking in the state of Georgia. What was that, you’re not shocked? Yeah, me neither. So what this long winded comment is clumsily lumbering toward is this: you mentioned that you’re doing “law-related” work…what IS this magical “law-related” work? I’m looking for something along those lines, and I was kinda hoping for some advice if you have any?? From one bar passer to another, of course!
You are hilarious. Love your blog!
You make me want to divorce my husband and marry an older black man. Have you received any proposals yet? I’ll start. $5.
Dude, I need to pay of law school. It’s going to take more than $5 (but probably not much more now that I think about it…he’s pretty expensive to “maintain”).
Found ur blog thru SR. U and the hubby make a beautiful couple! 🙂 Look fwd to reading lots more!
Thank you!!
Found your blog via Skinny Runner, looking forward to reading about your adventures.
I found your blog through Skinny Runner too! And I’m loving your posts already! Can’t wait to read more 🙂
I just ran across your blog. Hilarious! & Real! Love your posts.
Thank you and welcome! However, sometimes “real” can be scary.
Hi there, just stumbled on your blog! Thanks for making me smile today. YOu write well and have a great knack for seeing teh fun things in life.
Would you mind if I asked you some questions about your law/non law career path? I tried to find your email on here but couldn’t so now I’m posting this totally awkward comment 🙂
I’ll send you an email!
