Last month, I made these gorgeous cake and Oreo pops for my nephew’s 2nd birthday.
This was my grocery haul in preparation for the pops:
I know you can make everything from scratch, but I prefer the easy way…mostly because I’m lazy.
I baked up the cake the night before so it would be completely cool the next day.
I thought it would be cute to use strawberry cake so the pops would be pink on the inside.
After crumbling the cake, I added strawberry frosting.
And mixed everything together. Once the frosting was mixed with the crumbled cake, I formed them into balls and put them in the fridge to get cold. And then I worked on the Oreo pops.
I use Double Stuf Oreos and to get the stick to stay in the Oreo, I dip it in melted chocolate first:
Side note: I used Candy Melts…you can get them at any craft store (like Michaels and Jo-Anns) and they come in so many colors! Oh and you can melt them in the microwave, no double boiler needed.
And then pushed it into the Oreo:
Once I had a bunch of Oreos on sticks, I put them in the fridge to make the chocolate firm up (and hopefully glue the Oreos to the sticks). While those were in the fridge, I went back to the cake pops to start covering them in chocolate.
The entire process can take some time, but I just watched movies like S.W.A.T. on Netflix:
And a few hours later, I had a bunch of gorgeous cake and Oreo pops ready to go!
Kai loved them…
And I love the way they look in the middle!
I wanted to create an arrangement of pops so I put a piece of floral foam in a square vase and shoved as many pops as possible into it.
I poured a bag or two of Starburst jelly beans in to cover the foam and I think the result was magical.
HAVE A WONDERFUL FRIDAY!
