Last month, I made these gorgeous cake and Oreo pops for my nephew’s 2nd birthday.
This was my grocery haul in preparation for the pops:
I know you can make everything from scratch, but I prefer the easy way…mostly because I’m lazy.
I baked up the cake the night before so it would be completely cool the next day.
I thought it would be cute to use strawberry cake so the pops would be pink on the inside.
After crumbling the cake, I added strawberry frosting.
And mixed everything together. Once the frosting was mixed with the crumbled cake, I formed them into balls and put them in the fridge to get cold. And then I worked on the Oreo pops.
I use Double Stuf Oreos and to get the stick to stay in the Oreo, I dip it in melted chocolate first:
Side note: I used Candy Melts…you can get them at any craft store (like Michaels and Jo-Anns) and they come in so many colors! Oh and you can melt them in the microwave, no double boiler needed.
And then pushed it into the Oreo:
Once I had a bunch of Oreos on sticks, I put them in the fridge to make the chocolate firm up (and hopefully glue the Oreos to the sticks). While those were in the fridge, I went back to the cake pops to start covering them in chocolate.
The entire process can take some time, but I just watched movies like S.W.A.T. on Netflix:
And a few hours later, I had a bunch of gorgeous cake and Oreo pops ready to go!
Kai loved them…
And I love the way they look in the middle!
I wanted to create an arrangement of pops so I put a piece of floral foam in a square vase and shoved as many pops as possible into it.
I poured a bag or two of Starburst jelly beans in to cover the foam and I think the result was magical.
HAVE A WONDERFUL FRIDAY!
Yummmm they look delicious!! And so fun to make too! I always thought cake pops were quite fiddly to make but you make them look so easy! 🙂
They are so easy, they just take a little time. I think the results are worth it and people are (usually) pretty impressed.
Yum! Those oreo one’s look SO good! I never have really known how to make cake pops…so thanks for sharing!
Ha ha, I thought this post was going to be about your dad! I’ve always wondered how exactly you make cake balls. I’m inspired now, even if it takes hours, I’d be happy as long as I was munching on oreos and cake batter along the way!
Please don’t make any more of those; because they just make me fat! It’s definitely possible to love something too much!
Natalie will be staying here for a few days. One of our projects will be to make your famous oreo pops =)
Good job on your run!
The Oregon Country Fair wasn’t the same without George staring at the bare breasted ladies, although I have to say, not too many boobies yesterday.
These look amazing
