I Need Help

And not for the obvious reasons.  G and I are heading out on vacation in a few weeks and I don’t have any books to read!

This is a crisis.  When we’re on vacation, we do nothing.  My to-do list consists of taking 15 naps a day, eating a ton and reading a couple of books.

That is, when I’m not busy taking 100 pictures of G posing without his shirt on.

I’m not joking.  But sometimes, I can convince him to take a picture with me.

Anyway, back to my issue.  I need some book recommendations!!!

I’m about to finish this book:

And while I’m not usually that into self-help kind of books, I’m actually enjoying this one a lot…maybe I’ll do a book review post when I finish it.

I typically read chick-lit.  Something that requires virtually no thinking and something that I usually forget as soon as I turn the last page.  Oh, and I love a happy ending…not that kind of happy ending.  One where the girl gets the guy, the job and the perfect life.  It makes me happy.

So here are some of the authors I’ve read: Jennifer Weiner, Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, Jen Lancaster, Carrie Adams…that’s all I can remember right now.  Oh and I’ve read The Hunger Games series (loved, by the way).

Have you read anything good (or even mediocre) lately?  Do tell.

Our book club just started 50 Shades of Grey…supposed to be very scandalous! taking the world by storm!

  2. Stephanie says:

Joanne Fluke has a Hannah Swanson series which a are quick & cute. Same with Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. I just read Sophie Kinsella’s new book “I’ve got your number” and really enjoyed it. Have a fabulous vacation!!

Janet Evanovich has a series, Stephanie Plum series. The first book is One for the Money, that is the funniest series ever, great characters, etc if you haven’t read it already. Those are PERFECT vacation reads. Love, love, love them!

    • That’s the 2nd suggestion for the Stephanie Plum series. Thank you!!

      • brandyp0509 says:

No problem, it is a great read! I love to read and usually read more mystery/romance books or as my kiddo’s call them “murder” books, haha. JD Robb, which is Nora Roberts are another good series but the Stephanie Plum series are literally laugh out loud hysterical! Sorry for the double posts it told me my first comment didn’t post.

      • Moni says:

3rd suggestion: I highly recommend them too!!! 🙂 I have never laughed more reading a book then when I read all of these!! Again, the characters are fun and there’s a great little love triangle in the stories as well.

  4. Stephanie says:

PS the books that are in a series don’t necessarily need to be read in order.

Janet Evanovich has a great series, the Stephanie Plum series. These books have great characters, are hilarious and a great vacay read if you haven’t already read them. The first one is One for the Money. I absolutely LOVE this series.

  6. svelie@dpnicoli.com says:

did you read the “girl with dragon tatoo” series. great.

  7. Anything by Jodi picoult (the pact and 19 minutes are my favorite) Nicholas sparks (the guardian and the lucky one are my favorite) and I’m starting to get into Kristen Hannah books!

  8. Tracey says:

    Hey there!
    I’m a big fan of a good series…
My favorite trilogy is by Nora Roberts, she is the best at it..
#1 choice is “Born in Trilogy” Born in Fire, Born in Ice and Born in Shame

2nd favorite is “Three Sisters Island Trilogy” Dance Upon Air, Heaven and Earth, Face the Fire

Right now I’m in the middle of J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

Enjoy your vacation, can’t wait to see pictures!!!

  9. Anything by jodi picoult (he pact and 19 minutes are by far my favorite – such tear jerkers) Nicholas sparks (the guardian and the lucky one (which is coming over in theaters featuring zac efron)) and I’ve been getting into Kristen Hannah lately too!

  10. Tracey says:

Yes I also read the whole 18 book series by Janet Evanovich, and until I read JD Robb’s “In Death” series it was close to the top of my list…
Let me know what you choose

  11. Karla says:

I just downloaded Fifty Shades of Grey only because I needed a new book and it was number 4 on the best sellers list behind The Hunger Games series which I’ve already read. It’s also the first book in a trilogy and is supposed to be made into a movie – I’m about 10 chapters in and if this is made into a movie it’ll be XXX for real. The Janet Evanovich books are very quick and easy reads but entertaining. Fifty Shades of Grey will probably make you want to spend vacay in bed with your trophy husband!!

  12. Stephanie says:

I just read Divergent by Veronica Roth. Dark and dystopian, and it’s a FAST read. And the new Steven King – 11/22/63 – was interesting and well written (time travel and supernatural).

  13. Jennifer T. says:

If you liked Hunger games, try the Maze Runner trilogy. It’s really good!

  14. Jen says:

Must take 50 Shades of Gray!! All 3 books! Loved them all. I’m on the search for Christian Gray.

  15. bearrunner says:

The only thing I have read lately is WordPress

  16. If you like the Hunger Games, try the Maze Runner series. It’s pretty good. I also just finished the Secret LIfe of Cee Cee Wilkes, and it was meh. Sorry, I wish I could give better recommendations, but I’m sort of in a book drought too.

  17. Alison says:

Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffin are the best chick-lit! Ive read them both multiple times!

  18. Gma Pat says:

Can U stand one more suggestion? Any of Maeve Binchy’s stories are interesting. She is an Irish author and writes ultimately about a whole community, a book at a time. Also must rave one more time about Stephanie Plum series!! Super funny…laugh out loud!! Have a great vacation and stay safe in Mexico!!!

  19. SueM says:

Try A Discovery of Witches. Really good. Sorry, can’t recall author. You won’t be disappointed.

  20. Sarah says:

Sophie Katz- “Sex, Murder and a Double Latte”. (As well as the others in the series) Perfect vacation reads!

  21. RicoleRuns says:

Vacation yay! Where are you going? I’m not sure you would like these books as they don’t really fit your criteria but I just read The Weird Sisters and liked it, The Mazerunner series is similar to hunger games, I liked Story of Beautiful Girl and A Dog’s Purpose too!

  22. Sarah says:

The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is a great vacay read. Graceling by Kristin Cashore is also great if you loved Hunger Games. The Immortal Instrument series is also wonderful (spacing on the author).

Jen Lancaster’s new book is coming out soon…when do you leave??

  23. Jennifer says:

I love anything by Christopher Moore. These are some of the funniest books I have ever read. Very silly and sarcastic. You Suck, and The Stupidest Angel are my all time favorite books.

  24. girlgonecommando says:

Marian Keyes – “Rachel’s Holiday” (it’s girly fluff about a girl who goes to rehab – that makes it sound dark, but it’s really amazing).

Maeve Binchy – “Circle of Friends” – coming of age story about a group of college friends. Think St. Elmo’s Fire set in the 1950’s in Ireland. ❤

If you haven't read it Bridget Jones Diary is great.

I have no idea why I only read British/Irish authors? I'm from Maryland :/

  25. andrea says:

Any lisa gardner book and any james patterson.

  26. Christine says:

I haaate Janet Evanovich books, they are a little too fluffy with not enough… I dunno don’t know, they are just missing something… That being said, I do love The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. Don’t let True Blood scare you off, the books are million times better and way different.

Any of Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch books are GREAT.

I read the original Fan Fic of Fifty Shades of Gray, and it was ok. Not bad, erotica for sure though.

I adore Phantoms, The Taking, Intensity, From the Corner of His Eye, Twilight Eyes all by Dean Koontz. I hate hate hate his newer stuff, but most of his older stuff are great reads.

Not such “fun” reads, but totally great The Poisonwood Bible and Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver.

    I could go on forever!

  27. MaryAnne says:

Jennifer Crusie is one of my favorites – “Bet Me” is probably my all-time fave but you can’t really go wrong with any of her stuff, it’s funny and the people are real … like they live in Ohio and work at insurance companies or teach high school art. You can usually find them for a few bucks in used bookstores. Her books co-written with action author Bob Mayer are also terrific … “Agnes & the Hitman” is my fave, but again, none of them is bad. Enjoy!
